Does anyone know of any really good bands in esperanto? (preferably something in the hard rock/ metal variety...?)

(I suppose I should have called the thread "Music performed in esperanto"...)

Dolchamar, Persone, Hotel Desperado...

In my opinion, Esperanto Desperado is hardly hard rock. It is fairly soft, I think. Persone is rock but also not very "hard". Dolchamar has a bit harder rock, but only look at the CD "Rebela Sono", because that band has changed its sound a number of times, so Rebela Sono is the only rock CD they made.

Vinilkosmo is the main Esperanto music publishing house, and they have at least one online clip for each of their CDs. Take a listen, it's a good way to find out what bands you might like (their website also has an English version)

You can download lots and lots of Esperanto music (legally) here:

Look for "roko". I think you might like "La Porkoj" (The Pigs), which is the "hardest" Esperanto rock I've personally listened to.

I like Ralph Glomp, but I don't think he's in the rock/metal category...

Vinilkosmo is now offering some of its music in mp3; plan is to offer the whole catalog in mp3 eventually. http://www.vinilkosmo-mp3.com

Excellent question. As a fan of metal myself, I have to admit that I haven't found anything remotely convincing in that genre when it comes to Esperanto. I have yet to see a solid band with a strong vocalist like Epica or Nightwish. I'd like to find a band with a sound like H.I.M.'s but with lyrics in Esperanto. I think this would do great things to promote the language to people in our age range and younger.

However, I've found a Polish rap artist (who lives in Japan) which I really like. His beats are good, a bit on the crump side (Lil' Wayne style) but with meaningful, yet easy-to-follow lyrics. His name is Eterne Rima.

This is his MySpace: www.myspace.com/eternerima and this is his account on iPernity: www.ipernity.com/home/eternerima - he posts music on them regularly. I think he's releasing an album online this month.

Something else I'd like to hear in Esperanto is some good electronica, something akin to t.A.T.u., with corny lyrics but in Esperanto. That could do a lot to push Esperanto among the younger generation.
