To all you language lovers,

I made a promise at PledgeBank:

http://www.en.pledgebank.com/Quechua
"I will learn the Quechua language, but only if 8 other people will learn one of the 'useless' languages in the list below."

The 8 languages you can choose from are:

-Quechua http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quechua
-Aymara http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aymara
-Quenya http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quenya
-Sindarin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sindarin
-Irish Gaelic http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_Gaeli...
-Scottish Gaelic http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_Ga...
-Latin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latin
-Basque http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basque_lang...

What these languages have in common, is that they aren't very popular, since they
-are not spoken as a mother language because they are dead (Latin) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Language_de... ;
-are not spoken as a mother language because they were constructed (Quenya, Sindarin) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constructed... ;
-are spoken, but by minority groups who also speak a language that is way more common (Quechua, Aymara and Basque have Spanish; Irish and Scottish have English) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minority_la....

If you want to learn one of these languages, you'll have to do it out of love for the language or the culture attached to it, or for the intellectual challenge of doing so.

If you subscribe to this promise, please add two extra things to your name:
-The language you are planning to learn (Qc, A, Qn, S, IG, SG, L, B);
-The language you prefer being addressed in (N for Dutch, En for English, Eo for Esperanto).

I wish you lots of linguistic and esthetic pleasure,

Andy.
So now I challenge you to put your name on the list and learn one of these practically useless, but extraordinarily interesting languages.

Because every language has the undeniable right to be used, whether it is dead or alive, natural or constructed.

Mi al vi deziras ege da plezuro ĉe la lernado kaj uzado de via lingvo elektita.

Amike,

Andreo
