How do you say that something is for sale for a certain price or that you bought something for a certain price? La libron oni vendas per dek dolaroj? Mi aĉetis alian libron per dudek dolaroj? Do you use per or a different preposition? Is it different for buying and selling?

Also, when you're asking about an adjective or adverb, do you say, for example, kiom ofte or kiel ofte?

One last question: How do you say things like "twice a week"? Does it somehow use po?

Oni vendas la libron kontraŭ dek dolaroj
Kiom ofte? - if the answer is a number
Kiel ofte! - if the answer has no number or it is not a question at all.

Dufoje ĉiusemajne - ĉiu- is used as prefix
Dufoje en (la) (pasinta) semajno - if you need an article or an adjective for the period.

You can use tekstaro.com for find examples.

When you have something for sale, you postulas iun prezon (demand a price).

La fabrikanto postulas prezon de du mil.

When you actually do the sale, things are sold kontraŭ iu prezo (see item 4).

Kontraŭ dek svisaj frankoj mi sendas serion da aŭstraj poŝtmarkoj.

For multiples Esperanto has the suffix -obl – duoble (twice), trioble (thrice), kvaroble (four times) ktp. – but these are for some reason used only for quantities (like in a recipe). For time you use the word fojo, which I think translates to "times": unufoje (one time), dufoje (two times)…

La flugkompanio flugas al Kangerlussuaq dufoje (ĉiu)semajne.

Po is perhaps one of the hardest prepositions in Esperanto for many. It is used to show much each gets, when something is divided. I've heard, that for English-speakers it helps to translate it to "apiece", but in any case do not translate it to "each", because then you put it before a wrong word.

La intervjuoj prenis po du personoj en ĉiuj ĉambroj. (the interviewers took two persons into each room)
veturi po cent kilometroj en horo (each hour you travel a hundred kilometres)

Ĉu oni aĉetas la libron kontraŭ dek dolaroj, aŭ per ili?

sergejm (Montri la profilon) 2019-aŭgusto-31 08:51:41

Oni ambaŭ vendas kaj aĉetas varon kontraŭ mono.
Vendisto metas varon, aĉetanto metas monon kontraŭ ĝi kaj ili interŝanĝas.

Ĉu oni ne aĉetas varon per mono? Mi estas tre konfuzita.

Pardonu la anglan.

A long time ago all trade was done by exchanging goods. I give you 20 fish for an axe you forge for me. Or I give you two sheeps for a sledge. The problem with this exchange system is, that every good must be rated against every other good (how many fish you want for the sledge?). To make trading easier one invented money, a common measure against which all goods are rated. Say 20 fish are worth 30 coins, so is your axe, but two sheeps are worth 40 coins as is your sledge. Now it's simpler to calculate how many fish are required for the sledge.

However this is essentially still a system of exchange. My bet is on the fact, that the German language has retained this original idea and uses the preposition gegen (against). From it Zamenhoff took kontraŭ.

Per denotes a method, a way. For instance mi pagas per kreditkarto.

Do, ekz:
Mi aĉetas la libron per 10-dolara monbileto kaj ricevis restmonon 50 cendojn.

Metsis (Montri la profilon) 2019-septembro-02 06:11:14

Mi aĉetas la libron kontraŭ 10-dolaroj. (how much I pay)

Dankon, Metsis.

Kie mi povas trovi dulingvan (EN-EO) liston de frazeroj, kiujn oni uzas en la angla kaj ne tradukas laŭvorte (ekzemple, "parenteze"/by the way)? Mi ne scias sufiĉajn frazerojn tiajn (ĉi tiu frazo certe estas malprava, bonvolu pravigi ĝin).
