Can anyone direct me to Esperanto events in Scotland? Yes, I have looked at the Scottish org's website, and as far as I can tell, they only seem to happen once or twice a year and they seem to be dominated by old men. By the time I look in, they're either past, or many months in the future. I would be interested in meeting Esperanto speakers in person locally. I'm not rich so can't afford to travel far these days, and I learn languages best by people speaking them to me. (Yes, I count London as "far" and it's a horrifically expensive place too. I was there last year twice, and can't afford to go back soon!)

Dankon, but that's the website I've already looked at. Only one or two events a year. malgajo.gif

Where in Scotland are you? If you are near Glasgow or Edinburgh, there are local clubs with monthly-ish meetings. Elsewhere, not so much, everyone seems dotted about at some distance from each other, so currently rely on online chatting.

If there's something in Edinburgh I'd be interested. I've picked up a lot in other languages in the past by listening to other folk and actually speaking them. Obviously it will depend whether I can fit it around other commitments, but that's another matter.

Dankon!

Hi Nephihaha. Sorry this reply is such a long time after your original post - hopefully you'll still get notification of this!

We do have more than a couple of events a year - at least three, plus the monthly meetings of the Glasgow club - but I admit we do not do well enough at publicising them.

I am the president of the Scottish association for the coming year and am keen that we better support learners in Scotland - for instance through a regular email newsletter, opportunities for members to chat to each other on a mailing list etc, which allows for better promotion and organisation of informal gatherings. I also want to make the content of our events, and the congress I will be organising in May 2020, more inclusive to learners (so your ideas of what would suit in terms of sessions, content, would be welcome). Join the association via that link you found, and we will keep in touch.

PS I am 40! We're not all that old!

Personally, I am regularly in Edinburgh for work so would be happy to meet for a pint/coffee and to have a practice chat. Also, check out Amikumu, where you can find a good handful or so in the Edinburgh area.

Drop me an email - mail at my full name dot co dot uk - and I'd be delighted to help further.
