(I am not a native English speaker. So if I say something wrong in grammar, or something that sounds strange for native speakers, please point it out to me. Thanks in advance.)

See this sentence:
1. He goes out from the house.

Can I translate it into Esperanto as:
2. Li iras ekster la domon
3. Li iras al ekster la domo
4. Li iras eksteron de la domo
5. Li iras ekstere la domon
6. Li iras ekstere el la domo

Which is right? Which is the most widely accepted?

Besides, can I say it in English as:
7. He goes to outside the house

Thanks again.

sergejm (Montri la profilon) 2017-decembro-06 17:21:57

Li iras eksteren el la domo.

Metsis (Montri la profilon) 2017-decembro-07 00:20:13

sergejm pravas.

The rule goes like this. Use nominative case, i.e. not accusative, with prepositions, but there are a couple of prepositions that can have their main word in the accusative case to indicate movement, while the nominative case main word indicates being, non-movement. Note that if the preposition already denotes movement, one does not use accusative.

Ekzemploj
  • al (to): indicates always movement therefore only, al la domo: to the house
  • ĉe (at):
     - indicates being, ĉe la domo: (being) at the house
     - indicates movement, ĉe la domon: (go being) at the house
  • ekster (outside):
     - indicates being, ekster la domo: (being) outside the house
     - indicates movement, eksteren el la domo: (go) outside (from) the house
(Note, extra e is for easier pronounciation and an extra preposition el is required to indicate from.)
  • en (in):
     - indicates being, en la domo: in the house
     - indicates movement, en la domon: into the house
  • sur (on):
     - indicates being, sur la tablo: on the table
     - indicates movement, sur la tablon: onto the table
The list is not exhaustive.

Esti ekstere de la domo - to be at outside of the house.
-e here and -e- in eksteren are not for easier pronounciation, they make adverb from preposition.

amigueo (Montri la profilon) 2017-decembro-07 14:43:18

Swafim, sergejm, Metsis,

PMEG

- Li iras ekster la domon. (to outside)
- Li iras eksteren el (interne de) la domo. (from inside)

To summarize the answers:

ekster is a preposition, so it needs another word after it: ekster la domo, ekster la akvo. To show direction, the following word can take -n: iri ekster la domon

ekstere is an adverb, thus it doesn't need to specify "outside of what". Usually the context makes it clear, or it's understood to mean "outside, outdoors": esti ekstere

The simplest way to say "he left the house" is "li eliris la domon". More complex combinations such as "eksteren el" don't seem necessary to me, as "el" can already show movement away or out of.

I don't believe prepositions can be made directly into verbs, such as "eli".

La klarigoj de nornen estas bonaj ridulo.gif

ito (Montri la profilon) 2017-decembro-08 00:31:56

Pardonon ke mi parolas Esperante.

PIV klarigas ke "eliri" estas netransitiva(ntr) verbo, kaj ĝi ne montras ekzemplojn kiuj esprimas tiel kiel "eliri ---on". Do ĉu oni ne povas diri "li eliris la domon" sen prepozicio?

Laŭ PIV
iri (principe ntr) -> iri longan vojon; multe irata strato; irebla vojo
