Miland: You may find his letter to Floyd Hardin of interest.
Good old Latin-3! There's a blast from the past. For all of those who came to Esperanto later than the year 2000 or so, you'll want to adjust your browser's character encoding to ISO-8859-3 for that page. (listed as "South European {ISO-8859-3)" in Firefox)

Genjix:its literally spoken by tens of people worldwide. the world revolution is imminent.
LOL, I missed that part! Really funny!

If almenaŭ that WebPage had a correct header and not the misleading:
meta http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"
it would work...

The webpage is explicitly telling the browser to misinterpret the esperanto letters for no apparent reason... ploro.gif
I think it MS Word's HTML generator fault.

ceigered:Arbitrary stealing of roots just looks bloody unnatural. If we're going to use "English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Russian, Hindi, Arabic, and Persian" roots, then why not just go "OK, 8 of those 10 languages are Indoeuropean, so why not just use simiplified IE roots as opposed to making things hard and irregular"?
Just because the languages are in the same family doesn't mean that they will have direct cognates (excluding loanwords). There aren't many cognates, for example, between English and Russian, despite them being from the same language family.

You'll have to learn new vocabulary no matter which language you learn. Sure, it's easier if you know some of the roots, but in my opinion it's easiest if you know the transfer of semantics (i.e. "make red" instead of "blush").

Yeah but the languages themselves are cognate systems (I made this word up haha) - actually, all languages are technically these. They are "alternate versions of a linguistic ideal in the mind". Taking bits and pieces from various languages can be done to a certain extent but eventually you end up with giant clashes. And theoretically any word in related languages can be "deconstructed" and have a neutral, proto version made up that might have been used by all speakers. Loan words of course won't work that way, but they can be avoided or included if necessary under the banner of loan words (unless you do an "English" and have the new language a fusion of two languages with significant Anglicisation of all roots).

It's like getting bits and pieces of earth from various alternate universes and putting them together in a new universe and calling it a earth that is a neutral product of all the alternate "what-ifs", which is technically true, but you want all those bits to work together. You don't want to steal Orwell's 1984 Oceania and put it next to chimera infested Russia from the Resistance video game series, while having a Soviet-invaded USA from Red Dawn, for example (or worse, half of the USA being based off of the original Red Dawn, and the other half being based off of the Chinese-flavoured spinoff rido.gif).

I agree that semantics are important for ease (and that orthography and pronunciation are important for style/aesthetics).

It's more like trying to mix Star Wars and Pokemon with a pre-made blend of Bollywood and whale blubber. Try making that work XD

Jokes aside- it's all about semantics in the end. That's why I love the idea of the IAL. It's an extremely challenging process to get the right blend, and people have different opinions, which adds a whole new dimension to it.

Haha!

Jedimon - gotta catch them all! (done to bollywood theme music). First two games will be Light and Dark with legendaries Luke and Darth Vader (keep an eye out for the eventual 3rd game of the generation with Han Solo)
