The management committee of EAB, the British Esperantist organisation, is looking for a location for the 2013 British Congress.

I have suggested my home town of Ramsgate, a picturesque and historic seaside resort on the SE tip of Kent, with cross-Channel connections to the Continent, from the Port and from nearby Dover and Folkestone .

No final decision has been taken, but I wonder how many Lernu members would be interested in participating (or joining the organisational team), given that the Congress, if held in Ramsgate, is likely to have a more international flavour than the usual British Congress.

By the way, I noticed that over the years some 2700 registrations at Lernu have been received from UK residents.

Given the distribution of the population in the UK, it can be assumed that a high proportion of these hail from the South or South-eastern part of England.

Is there any simple way of sending a message to them through Lernu, without hunting through the list and sending individual messages?

Sounds awesome. Would it be thinkable to park the car in Oostende and sail over, without having to take care of driving on the left side? Or is the ferry thing too inconvenient when not traveling by car?

As far as I know the Ostend-Ramsgate ferry service does not accept foot passengers.

The ferry port at Ramsgate is bang next to the yacht-marina/harbour and only 5 mins on foot from the town centre.

I would imagine that you could leave your car at the Port, though that might incur a fee. But only a little driving on the left, on traffic-free roads, would be involved, to get to the nearest on-road free parking.

The situation at Ramsgate is quite different to that at Dover. If you Google an aerial view of Ramsgate Port, you'll see,

There is still a foot-passenger service between Calais and Dover, but then you would have to catch a bus or train to Ramsgate - quite do-able but nowhere near so convenient.

Edit: this picture shows the exit from the Port - you can see cars parked further on along the undercliff road. To get to the town centre you walk 5 mins along the road at the botttom left of the picture.
