Combining my love of well-written stories and languages (and latent masochism concerned therein) I have acquired (made) a copy of the script the the game Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP (beautiful game).

This was done with the intention of translating it (see previous note concerning masochism). I have a few questions.

Now, a great deal of S:S&S EP's charm comes from its unique style of dialogue. There's a great deal of idiosyncrasies and mixing of language styles. For example, consider these following quotes (only the first two are related):

"Far from the war-ravaged steppes of Scythia we met a dark-haired girl in a sunlit meadow."

"To the mountain folk of The Caucasus she was known as 'Girl' & she seemed nice."

"And yet Logfella offered zero help about what to do next, which kinda rubbed us the wrong way if we're being totally honest."

"Inside a titanic hollow tree we approached a solitary grave & a badass ghost showed up and told us some things."

My point is, the game is very tied to its dialogue and to translate it, I need to capture that style in another language. It's a mix of properness, detailed description and grammatical rule-bending.

I don't know how to say "badass" in Esperanto, and I certainly don't know how to say "Where my miracles at?" Why? Because they are slang and ungrammatical sentences. Esperanto doesn't really do those things very much.

So I was wondering if you could help me. Maybe give me some ideas for slang words, or help me figure out what grammar-rules to bend and break so that the sentence still is intelligible, but is clearly butchered for comedic purposes.

My knowledge of Esperanto is pretty much entirely clinical. I can speak some, I can read more, but when it comes to dealing with the way people talk and how one can bend the language, I'm at a complete loss.

I'm not sure how it'd be looked upon by the general Esperanto public, but a thought that immediately came to mind was to use one of the Esperanto "sociolectes".

Namely for this, I could imagine using Popido.

(The article on wiki is only in esperanto and spanish)

Take a look at that and maybe that could help you get the desired effect.

I would translate "Where my miracles at?" as "Miaj mirakloj kie?"

I wouldn't show ungrammatical speech by putting on endings incorrectly etc. But I think that a combination of unusual word order and leaving out some words might get you some of the effect you're looking for (but check your work with someone who knows what they're doing - "beginner translations" are actually pretty easy to spot, and you don't want your translation to have that "enthusiastic newbie" look)

That thread has given me some ideas of how handle the grammatical side of things, which mostly just leaves slang-terms, but I should be able to puzzle those out with enough research.

I'll do my best to avoid looking like a newbie, while (hopefully) producing something worthy of the original!
