I just noticed the thread about using the Bible to learn Esperanto. This is a great idea, but I would prefer to use my book of choice. Does anyone know if there is a copy of The BBook the Law (a la Aleister Crowley) in Esperanto available somewhere? I would very much be interested!

Most* readers can't understand the book in English. I doubt a competent translation into eo is even possible. There are too many double and triple (or more) meanings, extraordinarily obscure and complex symbolisms, weird puns, and so on. In order to properly translate it, the translator would have to fully understand it first, and just doing THAT is a real trick. Most people don't have that kind of time.

So, my guess is that we are unlikely to ever see a good translation of that particular book into eo. I'm not saying we won't ever see a translation. I'm just saying if we do, it's likely going to be 100% superficially translated rubbish.

Which means you'd probably be better off choosing something a bit more straightforward, even if it isn't your first choice.

To someone not heavily grounded in Crowley's own personal symbolic system (i.e., someone who can basically quote 777 from memory, and that's just to start with), The Book Of The Law reads like utter gibberish. Which may not actually be best suited to teaching beginners Esperanto.

I suppose that is true. I have read some excellent translations in Spanish, so I figured it was worth the asking. Thanks!
