I was curious as to why there hasn't been more of an effort to make Lernu.net more compatible with iOS devices, i.e., iPad, iPhone, etc. For example, there is no ability to listen to the audio of lessons as (I believe) Flash is necessary to access the sounds, which of course isn't a capability compatible with iOS. Conversions to a more HTML5-friendly environment would be most beneficial to those who want to learn without the aid of a computer.

Also, are there plans for any iOS apps in the near future from Lernu? There are many such apps available in the iTunes store for other languages, but the Esperanto lesson learning catalog is lacking considerably. Perhaps the courses themselves can be converted to an app?

The short answer is that making lernu more compatible with these devices costs money, and since this is a free site, supported by a charitable foundation, there aren't a lot of resources to sink into that kind of stuff. It's not really about effort, it's about money, and also time (our programmers only work part-time on this site and they have loads of other projects they're involved in)

The longer answer is that the charitable foundation is financially supporting a complete redesign of the site, and these newer technologies will be supported in the redesign, which will launch early next year. We hope to have some related apps developed in conjunction with the site's relaunch.

If you have experience with developing apps and you wish to volunteer your time to help with that, please contact us at teamo@lernu.net; once the site is relaunched, it will be possible to develop apps to go with it (it's not worthwhile to develop much in the way of apps for the current site, because the structure will change drastically with the relaunch).

Maybe soundfiles should be available - real HTML5-like - as ogg's.
