Hi! I'm 13 and I'm on a mission to learn Esperanto. I am looking for someone to skype with to improve my speaking skills.
I am at a beginners level, so if anyone wants to direct me to some reading materials for beginners I would be very much obliged.

Dankon kaj adiaŭ!

"Gerda Malaperis!" is a mystery novel that you can download from Lernu. It's great for beginners because it starts simple and adds more and more grammar as it goes. Also, the Lernu version lists all the new words at the beginning of each chapter and provides multiple-choice questions.

Teach Yourself Esperanto
is a fine textbook but you'll have to look for it, the UEA doesn't seem to have any copies right now. The Esperanto Teacher may be old, but it's clear, free, and easily read on an e-reader. (At least two of those points make it especially perfect for teenagers.) Its authoress, Helen Fryer, probably had lunch with Zamenhof at some time. The Fundamental Chrestomathy is scientifically designed by Dr. Esperanto himself to make you read more betterer. A bit of a snooze-fest, as you might guess from that description and title, but quite good for putting in the hard yards when you are starting out. Also free + e-readable. La suno brilas!

I'm delighted you're learning Esperanto, Ingenium. There have been some very good suggestions made to you about reading materials and courses. Something else that may eventually be of interest to you is the Pasporta Servo, a board at which you can find Esperanto speakers in places you might be traveling to. Often members from there will meet with you and show you around. Sometimes they will even host you in their homes.

To practice speaking, you might be able to find a Meetup group near where you live. There is a Meetup group that helps establish Esperanto Meetup groups you could check out, too. If you decide to do that, here is a resource from Esperanto-USA that will give you ideas on how to get a group up and running. The tips will help you get a club started at school or the local library, too, if you're patient. Some high schools have community service requirements. Maybe starting such a group would get you that credit if you need it.

Oh, a quick tip for you. The Esperanto farewell adiaǔ is like the English adieu. It seems seldom used except when you likely will never see someone again. The usual way to say good-bye is, "Ĝis!" It means until next time or until later.
