I consider myself a computer nerd. It appears as though Esperanto is attractive to this type of demographic. As of today's date, according to the poll that I recently did:
In the English forum:
48% are using Linux.
33% are using Windows.
15% are using Mac.
In the Esperanto forum:
55% are using Linux.
25% are using Windows.
14% are using Mac.
Compare these figures to the image that I attached from this source
Linux users on Lernu are about 50 percent, yet when we examine the population, only 1 and half percent are Linux users.
It appears that the computer nerds, such as myself, are well represented in the Esperantujo (am I using this word correctly).
It might be interesting to find out how many Esperantists work in the IT field. I am currently working in that field.
Why do you think so many of us are using Linux compared to the total population? This is a dramatic difference.

This doesn't seem to be a phenomenon limited to Esperantists ... many people on Internet Relay Chat (certainly more than 1.5%) also use Linux.
The absolute figures may be skewed because many people have to use Windows for work (libraries, corporations, etc) even if they use a different operating system on their personal computer.

The absolute figures are not indicative of personal use. You also have the fact that you are surveying an online forum, a forum with people who value freedom and choice, and you are covering a group of people who are far more likely to hear about and be open to alternative ideas/solutions. I bet if you surveyed Esperantists at a congress you will probably get a distribution that is more representative of the population at large.
