Duolingo has this program called 'immersion' where users can translate articles from their target language. I used this immersion program to translate some Spanish articles in Wikipedia.

I was hoping to do the same with the Duolingo Esperanto Immersion, however, immersion won't be available to Esperanto anytime soon.

But I still want to have Wikipedia articles translated, so I was thinking that I host a small monthly competition. This is how it'll work.

1. Fluent Esperanto speakers register, and say what they're interested in.
2. I find English articles that don't have Esperanto translations.
3. I give the articles to the translators via Google Docs.
4. When the deadline is over, whoever translated the most words will be awarded the prize.

The prize will be small, 5-15USD.
And I'll need another person to help proofread the translations (to make sure they're not cheating or anything).

What do you guys think of this?

I'd say that's a good idea. I don't like that the duolingo esperanto course won't have immersion. I thought that was going to be great for vikipedio.

My only suggestion would be for people to select the articles they want to translate, instead of picking articles for them about something they expressed interest in. That was they get to work on exactly what they want to. Might be more motivation for people.

Me too, but apparently they're not supporting immersion for new languages. I pondering how much it would cost to create my own crowdsourced translation program for Wikipedia.

Although they can cheat easily with my currently proposed system, if they were to choose their own articles, they could stockpile secretly translated articles before the competition starts.
