A small group is getting together to translate the Jewish Friday night prayer service, with the goal of completing it in time to use it at the NASK in Raleigh, NC, starting the 30th of June.

If you'd like to help, please announce yourself in this thread, or send me a private message. It's not a short text but it's also not too long if it is divided among multiple people.

Thanks very much, I've included you in my coordination e-mail.

FYI for others:

Hebrew is helpful but definitely not necessary, there is plenty of grunt work to be done and also brute force translation off of English or Hebrew.

You don't need to be Jewish or even believe in any deity at all, just interested in helping out with a translation.

I am not Jewish but I was invited to a wonderful Passover meal this year. It was very ecumenical and they incorporated many calls to tolerance. It was only my second Passover meal but it was fantastic. I was deeply impressed - even now, months afterwards.

I'd be glad to offer a little help if I can. I'll PM you an alternative email address from the one I'm registered with at Lernu. Translating liturgy sounds like something I could legitimately call work!

Robb, a Passover seder is an amazing unifying event among different kinds of people, and since most seders involve discussion, everyone has something to contribute, including people who maybe don't know a lot about the religion (or aren't Jewish at all). It's common to invite non-Jewish guests to the table, it's one of the relatively few Jewish observances that can still be meaningful if you don't know any Hebrew and don't know a lot about the background of the holiday.

I am pretty familiar with shabbos prayer service (I'm in the process of converting to Judaism). I would love to help as much as I can. I could even double-check any work I do (or others do, if requested) with my Rabbi, who is tremendously proficient with translation work.

Great, PM me your email, lacasoldato, and I'll send you all the information. We are dividing up the work.
