Was wondering how one would discuss the religion Scientology in Esperanto. With words such as:
Operating Thetan (Don't know how it's spelled)
Scientology
Xenu
and all the other weird words they seem to have.

This should cover most of what you need.

Having been playing the Dead Space games for what seems to be 5 hrs today, every time I hear anything with -tology at the end I instantly think "UNITOLOGY!" (I'd link to the wikia page about it, but since the DS games are in the action/horror genre, I won't incase some 12 yr old wikiwalks into something deemed scary).

Anyway, while I'm not exactly fond of the religion due to my disagreements with reincarnation theory (amongst other, more trivial things), I wonder if, when translating to EO, there's a better way to translate terms like "thetan" which to me seem like an unnecessarily complicated way to explain a concept. Heck, I don't think it's well explained in English, along with the rest of the religious doctrine. At the least, if it's described in plain esperanto, it might make the religion look less alien or mysterious, similar to Christianity before it was translated into non-Latin languages okulumo.gif

I've already read some of the books. I was going through a hard time and decided I needed a little self help. . . Let's just say, they didn't sit well with me. . . After reading about 3 chapters and getting promise after promise of a better life and higher brain functionality, I decided it just wasn't for me. (I have all the brain functionality I need) I'm not going into any further details on this, but I can say, I went pretty in depth with the books. (Exploring the mental reactions my brain had to each step of the books) I didn't like the process. But, hey if someone else willingly lives their life like that, and that's how they deal, then who am I to tell them not to.

In France, it is considered as a sect.

I think you mean "cult".

"Scientology" is a fake word. Everything about it is fake. It's fiction. The author/originator of Scientology even said so himself.

Going a bit off the Esperanto topic here, guys.

... but a word of advice, I had a relative who once went to some Scientology meeting and somehow got on their mailing list. It was decades ago but they still mail stuff to him. If you want some spiritual advice, Scientology wouldn't be where I would turn. But if you do decide to read their stuff etc., please don't give them your name or any of your contact information, because you don't want to be hearing from them forever.

In Germany the Scientology sect is observed after long public court discussion by the Verfassungsschutz.
