I was brought up speaking German and American. When I went for more languages, I had an easy time acquiring the correct pronunciation. I started studying Portuguese a while back. I learned the pronunciation so well that some people think that I am a Brazilian while other people struggle with the pronunciation of Brazilian Portuguese. I attribute my ease with acquiring good pronunciation to the fact that from early on I had to use two different phonetic systems. I still have a problem with the grammar and vocab but people ask me what part of Minas Gerais I come from

@ AlexN - does your kid speak Esperanto natively then? I wonder if it'll be like you said about yourself. I know many people who never speak their native language with anyone but their parents since it feels awkward for them (mostly if they're European, but there's some important exceptions, especially depending on how "out-there" in the world they are, e.g. if they like exploring, etc).

No, definitely not. He speaks more than we do, but that does not even mean that he speaks a lot of Esperanto. Again, we have really low Esperanto level, our language experience does not cover even 10% of daily tasks.
So now we are going to find Esperanto-speaking people with children of the same age somewhere around.
