Does anyone know if UEA or the Esperanto movement ever turned to George Soros for financing or donations?
From this Wikipedia article it would seem that perhaps this wouldn't be so unlikely, ĉu ne?

pikolas:Does anyone know if UEA or the Esperanto movement ever turned on George Soros for financing or donations?(I think you mean "turned TO"; "turned on", in this context, would mean "attacked".)*
I haven't heard that he has been terribly active in the Esperanto movement in many decades.

* In a slightly different context, "to turn on" means "to sexually arouse", which you also probably don't mean. It's one of those little idiomatic traps that English sets for the non-native.

qwertz:Not quite. On a different section it is said that he has donated over 8 billion dollars to charity and such. He seems like a very active philantropist.pikolas:You assume that regarding "...and began funding dissident movements behind the iron curtain..."?

(Why? Because mostly capable seemingly people speak Esperanto - OK, not entirely true, but I suspet the UEA would be seen as capable enough!)

ceigered:Esperanto might not be seen as a philanthropist-enough goal.Tsss, tsss. Don't criticize the sole claims of the movement.
