translation help "community"

Hej,

could somebody tell the translation and definition of (online) "community" at the current Wells dictionary?

"Interreto" is not listed at NPIV 2002. So, I assume that NPIV 2002 doesn't concerns of communication and personal networking possibilities of the Internet.

Komun/a: 1 Rilata al pluraj samtempe ... 2 Rilata al la plejmulto ... Komun~o: Tio kio estas komun~a

Lernu.net dictionary: community = komunumo, komunaĵo.

An online community is still a "komunumo" as far as I know, or am concerned rido.gif.

It'd just be an interreta konumumo/konumaĵo.

(BTW, any usage notes between those two words? I always used "umo" but if I can use "aĵo" I'd like that since I like avoiding "umo" except when absolutely necessary, just as a stylistic choice)

community = koMuNuMo.

"Komunaĵo" - this is something that two things/people or a community have/has in common, rather than the word for 'community'. I think it's a mistake in the Lernu dictionary. I'll delete this word from the Lernu dictionary's translation of 'community' if nobody has any objections.

As for the correct translation of 'komunaĵo', ReVo suggests 'intersection' in the mathematical sense. In the more general sense it means 'thing in common'. NPIV2002 gives an example sentence: "La komunaĵoj de geedzoj" and compares it with 'komunaj posedaĵoj' (common possessions) as the meaning for this particular sentence.

According to Wells, community = komunumo.

So, I suppose 'online community' would be 'interreta komunumo'.

For 'on-line' Wells gives: "konektit-a, -e; interreta". - I presume that 'konektita' refers to the fact that you have an online connection, your computer is wired up to the internet. For 'online community' I'd rather use the word 'interreta'.

Thanks. Yes, interreta komunumo also accentuates jumping from one community to another one and reverse. Because other online communities are just some mouse clicks apart.

Ah, cheers for that, so basically "commonality (vs. komuneco)", "correspondence" and "parallel (vs. paralelaĵo)" rolled into one word? (in addition to your mathematical definition of intersection?)

@ Qwertz, for that idea of a community only being a few links away, could "ligilera" work perhaps? Ligilera interreta komunumo? It's not feeling quite right to me but I somehow feel like there's a way to express this idea of an "interlinked" grouped of communities. Maybe interligata komunumero?

i have no idea what a "ligilero" or "komunumero" is supposed to be.

How about one of the elements that make up a hyperlink? For example http, www, lernu and net make up http://www.lernu.net, and individually might be ligileroj.

Hm, ok, that makes sense, though (ret)adresero may be more logical for this meaning - since it’s the URL and not the link itself that these elements make up.

Sorry guys, that was meant to be aro, I was typing VERY fast and didn't notice that I was consistently writing the polar opposite of "aro" okulumo.gif

Do, "interligata komunumaro" kaj "ligilaro".

EDIT: Damn.. if only "ero" was "aro", "komunumero" runs off the tongue so much more nicely.
