I have started a blog where i can post short stories in esperanto that i will write in the future. I figure this is the best way to learn how to use the language.
Inevitably, i am running into difficulties when trying to say something; and i have only just started my first story!
First question: how do i say "he reached for the door knob"?
my best effort is "li atingas al la pordtenilo" but i don't think i have used the word "atingas" correctly.

»Li etendis la manojn al la pordtenilo.«

"atingi" is for reaching goals.

Thanks. I would never have found that word.

@chrisim101010: Could you try to let check your short stories by some experienced Esperanto speaker? Short stories would be well proper input to Muzaiko.info.

Wells2010 has etendi la brakon. I would seriously consider investing in his dictionary.

Here's an exercise for you:

"He spent a lot of time leaning on his shovel."

Don't try to translate it word-for-word; think rather of how you would explain it to someone who didn't know the idiom, and then translate the meaning into Esperanto.
