ki4jgt:There are actually alternate (cheaper) means than paying for a plane ticket but will the receiving country accept you with open arms if you have no passport? No, countries do not greet you with open arms with no passport. Entering without a valid passport and appropriate documents is called illegal immigration. You may have heard of people doing it at the US border with Mexico.
Even if you have a philosophical belief that borders should be totally open and people should be able to go wherever they want for work or tourism, that isn't how things work. No country wants to let just anybody in; they want to know who you are and what you're doing there. If you disagree with the current system you can certainly certainly work to change it, but the first step is to educate yourself on how border control works.
Do a YouTube search for UK Border Force and you can get a very good idea of what happens to people who fly in and have a passport but are refused entry to the UK, and to others who attempt to enter the UK illegally with no passport (trying to smuggle themselves in cargo trucks crossing from France to England).
Nothing to Declare is a similar TV program made in Australia. Take a look and educate yourself on how border security works.

I'm not asking that they abolish it. I like the current system. They do need to know where you are. So if you're ever in trouble, they know there is an American citizen somewhere who needs help. I'm just asking that they lower the price of the documents which can allow you into another country. I can get accross the world for $50 (with alternate travel means ). That's relatively cheap. However a passport is twice that + $30 more. We have the technology now to virtually eliminate all forged travel documents which only costs us pennies on the dollar. Yet we're still trying to use RFID and various other technologies (not on purpose) that raise the prices. I don't support anarchy because as wonderful as that system works for some, a majority of people would abuse the privelidge it brings. That's just humanity for you. So I'm all for keeping the borders, just not charging an arm and a leg (for lower class families) to allow entrance.
Thanks for the links.
I find them quite entertaining.
