Greetings all,

I've just posted a fairly large update to the ESPDIC (Esperanto-English Dictionary) project, bringing the total number of entries to 52,323. The dictionary is a downloadable text file which can be freely used by anyone in any application (licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License).

In addition to the plain text (UTF8) version, I'm also offering ESPDIC in other formats including .mobi (for the Kindle, etc.), .epub, and .pdf. This is still somewhat experimental, so please let me know if you have issues with the newer formats.

As always, comments, corrections, and (especially) contributions are warmly welcome.

Amike,

Paul

Hi Paul! I can see that you have put a lot of work into that.

One small point (in view of a recent thread on outsourcing).

I see that you have put Outer Hebrides as Eksternaj Hebridoj - which is fine by me, but you don't have an entry for Eksterna, unless I missed it.

I would agree that not everything that is external is Ekstera.

The following dictionaries don't contain the word 'eksterna': NPIV2002, Kondratjev, ReVo, Wells, Hron, Minnaja.

For 'outer' or 'external' the generally accepted word is 'ekstera'.

Vikipedio uses the names 'Foraj Hebridoj' (Outer Hebrides) and 'Proksimaj Hebridoj' (Inner Hebrides). This seems to be a better solution than the addition of a new word 'eksterna'.

Agreed. I now have the following :

Hebridoj : Hebrides, Western Islands
Novaj Hebridoj : New Hebrides
Foraj Hebridoj : Outer Hebrides
Proksimaj Hebridoj : Inner Hebrides

I also saw "Ĉeaj Hebridoj" for Inner Hebrides, but I hesitate to include it since there seems to be very little usage of "ĉea" outside of this context.

Thanks to both of you for the correction : please keep the corrections and comments coming!

Amike,

Paul
