lingvokapablo:It might be my own prejudices about this site, but in my mind this website is for learners not experienced speakers. Also, I haven't really seen everyday conversations on here. This place just seems to talk more about global issues rather than everyday "common folk" issues. I was hoping for a place where I could talk about in Esperanto daily life: health, relationships, emotions, education, etc. This site is mainly for learners but we have a mix of people here, and that's a good thing. Learners can ask questions of the experienced speakers and get a reliable answer, for example.
People do talk about global issues here but I have seen discussions on educational systems in different countries, things like that. It definitely isn't, in most cases, discussing people's feelings and relationships, but I think that a lot of people aren't willing to discuss those things in public. I certainly have had many private conversations with Esperanto speakers on those topics, so finding a penpal is really the best thing to do, if you want to discuss the trials of daily life in Esperanto.
Off and on, I've helped out my Ana Pana students who were looking for a penpal, by collecting usernames of current students looking for a penpal, then exchanging their information. But the forums are also a great place to find a penpal, just post a message saying that you're looking for people to correspond with, and some people who want to correspond will write to you (or post to the thread). It's a more effective method than simply messaging random users whose profiles look interesting, which is something that some other lernu users seem to do!

Now, I am definitely not an experienced Esperanto speaker so, perhaps my stilted Eo was at fault on all counts
