I know a British man in Yorkshire who is poor and lives in a sort of subsidized housing as well. He told me he gets his computer off the street in areas where people toss out computers. I mentioned Esperanto to him a few times and he said he was interested, but even with his potential free-time, he doesn't try to learn it. He has something of the English pride. Even discussing northern Ireland, he sees the Ulster Scots as merely defending their historical territory in Northern Ireland. Though otherwise he is very open-minded. I think it is that the poor are very defensive as well. So when dealing with poor people, even educated ones as he went to college, there is almost a turf-defensiveness, a fear of losing ground, so Esperanto would have to deal with that on the lower-class level. To give way to a potentially foreign language is quite hard.

Government subsidized housing is becoming very popular even in the USA. My own mother lives in it now, after years of paying extortionate rent.

There is also regular news on Muzaiko, if you like to hear them read aloud. It is not updated daily, but about once every two days.

This is a good site. I have been looking for a way to improve listening. This site as well appears to have the thing I wanted some time ago but couldnt find, a net radio station that could play in a music program outside a web browser. I learned a new word from it: "paneo" meaning "to break down". First Ive ever heard it.
