I regret to inform you that I received a message this morning that rdmiller3, also known as Rick (or Rik' in Esperanto), passed away suddenly yesterday, at his home in Muskego, Wisconsin.

Rick was an important part of the lernu community, active from time to time in the forums, and a diligent tutor for lernu's courses. He was also a wonderful person, and I corresponded with him on numerous occasions.

I received the news from a family member of his who sent a message to his e-mail contacts; the message was accompanied by an e-mail address for contacting the family. If any of you would like to send any of your memories of Rick to his family, please contact me and I'll pass the address along.

I only knew him for a short time through the lernu website and through facebook, but will miss him. Goodbye, Rik'.

Short notice, but for any lernu! users in Wisconsin, this is Rick's funeral information:

The visitation will be on Tuesday March 6th from 3-6pm at Fox River Christian Church Located at the corner of Lawnsdale Rd and Hwy 164 in Waukesha, WI with the Memorial service following from 6-7 at the same location and drinks and snacks after the service.

Rick's family tells me that he died from a massive heart attack cause by a complete cholesterol blockage of his left vein.

Unfortunately I did not know him, so I cannot say I feel so much, though I'll pray for him, that is the only thing I can do, though a bit later, as today I still feel a bit sleepy. I opened this "post" about an hour ago, and it was just by chance. And I'd better not say anything else as I don't want to put my messy foot in it.

I'm very sorry to hear this. It wasn't long ago that I did a correspondence course with him. He was very patient and helpful. From what little I know about him, he used his time well.

About a week and a half ago I corresponded with Rick about British audio dramas. We talked back and forth a little bit about science fiction; I told him that he might like Elvenquest, which he downloaded and listened to (and enjoyed).

Unfortunately I never responded to his last message, I got busy planning a trip and left for my trip, forgot ever to go back and respond, and now of course it's too late. Of course you never know when these things will happen and surely he wasn't waiting by the computer to see what I would say next about the topic.
