Even if it is a typing error, I don't see what word it would be.

Or: oft-em-a = to have a tendancy do something often; and therefore: oft-em-i = to actively be in the state of oftema?
... assuming a spelling error, and stretching the imagination.

darkweasel:Where did you encounter it, for example?I encountered it numerous times in "Sendependaj Homoj" translated by Baldur Ragnarsson.
One example is in the title of chapter 48 "O pura oftimi" pg 304, but I have come across it a couple other times in earlier chapters.

Wilhelm:I keep encountering this word but I can't find any translation for it. The word is "oftimi".You won't find an Esperanto translation for "oftími" because it's not Esperanto : the word is untranslated from the original Icelandic.
Ó púra oftími -- Fyrst deyt elsti bróðirinn ...
That said, I'm not familiar with oftími (it's not in my copy of the Mál og Menning Íslensk Orðabók, 1992, either).
Also, "púra" is not the same as Esperanto "pura" (pure, clean). The word "púra" is a local dialect form (staðbundið málfar) meaning something like "meager, scanty." So my *guess* is that this expression is some kind of regionalism and not standard Icelandic.
Sorry, but my Icelandic is pretty rusty.
