There are a lot of errors in the list. And many of the "connectors" are things that Esperanto speakers are unlikely to say. The point of using conversational connectors is to make you sound more fluent by learning turns of phrase used commonly by fluent speakers of the language. If the list has turns of phrase that fluent Esperanto speakers don't use, then there's no point in using those to try to sound fluent (all the more if they contain errors).

Translating a list of common filler phrases used in English isn't a great strategy, because many of the translations are things that fluent Esperanto speakers don't really say, and you end up ignoring some things that fluent Esperanto speakers do say (because they may not have have equivalents in conversational English)

Parsa9 aknowledged the list has errors (and asked for corrections). If some in the list are not apprpriate, then pointing that out is a form of correction (but it would be useful to say which ones).

Paranteze (BTW), there is a similar list like this in David Richardon's "Esperanto, Learning and using the International Language," on pages 248-251.

A list of filler phrases should be based on common phrases in the language to be learnt, rather than the mother tongue of the learner (Erinja makes this point).

However there is a special difficulty when it comes to Esperanto, as this is very much a non-idiomatic language, in contrast with the national languages which are replete with well-worn expressions.

That is not to say that there are no such fixed parol-turnoj in Esperanto, but although I think I could recognize what sounds natural in Esperanto as opposed to what doesn't, I would find it a difficult job to compile a list of such standard conversational filler phrases.

There is very much a sense that if something is grammatically correct and uses the appropriate lexical items, then it is acceptable, if not perfectly good, Esperanto.

I think the major thing that will make some expression sound a little odd in Esperanto, is if it does not utilize the resources of the language efficiently.

Hi Parsa! As already stated by the elderly of the tribe(!), word for word replacement of words doesn't really work sometimes. But nevertheless good job there, as some of them are useful if the grammar is corrected or gets a little polishing.

Thanks for the replies everybody. I did note a couple typographic errors like "mia" instead of "mi" that sudanglo caught. Thanks. I will examine his contributions and correct the list. Also, I understand that Esperanto is its own language with its own usage, so I would be interested to know which of these are commonly used in speech (rather than translated works), and which are rarely used by Esperantists. Surely Esperantists use conversational connector phrases in their speech, so I would like to hear about common ones I'm missing. Please feel free to post them. I think these can help people to break away from more mundane (ie. boring) speech.

[/quote]Omid, as you likely know "Parsa" was the name of both the ancient Persian kingdom (core of the Persian Empire) and its later royal capital (Persepolis is Greek for "City of Parsa"). The name was adopted for the province of Pars, which in Arabic orthography became "Fars." So Parsa is the origin of both the word "Persian" and "Farsi" (and "persa" in Esperanto). The Zoroastrians who moved to India were also known as Parsees ("Persians"). I started using the username Parsa on ebay, as most of the coins I collected were Iranian (Sasanian, Safavid, etc.), but now I use it just about everywhere. My wife is Iranian also.
