Here is an idea for new thread. Post a link every time you hear Esperanto mentioned some place outside the Esperanto movement. For instance, Bonnie Bassler mentions Esperanto when she explains how different bacteria species communicate. You can hear her say "This is the bacterial Esperanto." in this TED talk at 11:54. She doesn't stop to explain what Esperanto is, just mentions it as if most listeners already know what it is!

Sean B. Palmer mentions Esperanto when he explains that the name of his prototype scripting language Pluvo comes from the Esperanto word for "rain."

The use of Esperanto as a metaphor for cross-group communication seems to me to be quite firmly established in English. Whilst I can't think of an example heard recently, I have the impression of having come across it being used in this way quite frequently.
