Domego is generally defined as "a mansion". That seems to be bigger than a simply "large house" (domo granda). So I think the -eg- suffix is more powerful than simply "granda".
Also, don't forget there are synonyms to "granda" and "ega" you can use, like "giganta" (gigantic) or "kolosa" (colossal). This is useful stylistically, if you want to avoid using -eg- too often. (for example, "la giganta domego", practically a palace).
