I've just booked a place at the British Congress and am thinking about which hotel would be the most comfortable and nearest (in that order), and here's a second question for anyone who knows (most likely Terry or Tim): do I need to book any additional accommodation for a "post-kongreso" across the Channel, and bring my passport?

E-o attempted trans to start getting in my practice:

Absolutely the cheapest is the Travelodge on the sea front (3 minutes on foot from the kongresejo). Details on hotels with links are in this thread at the congress forum.

I did at one stage think a day trip to France might be interesting for a postKongreso. But then thought that would not be interesting for the French participants. I've pencilled in, in the programme, excursions to Sandwich and Dover, it all depends on interest.

No advancing booking required. I'm going to put up a sheet on one of the notice boards in the kongresejo and let people sign up to this or that group. If there's interest in a hop across the channel then a group can be formed for that.

A similar procedure will apply for the Komuna manĝo on the Sunday lunchtime. If we get enough enrolments this might be a freebie. Otherwise money and numbers will be collected on site.

Miland if you are available for minor duties antaŭ-kongresaj or dumkongresaj, then message me privately. Same goes for any other partoprenontoj. Many hands make light work.

Sudanglo, I share the opinion that the ram is jarring.

The picture entitled "The lighthouse" seems redundant and without context in its present placement. I suggest the picture entitled "The tower at the port" be renamed "The lighthouse at the port" and replace the other.

I would leave the butterflies out unless there is a caption of some sort for the entomologically interested and the insects are somehow of unique interest.

The remaining pictures are beautiful and enticing. A laughing person or two among the pictures would vivify them.

When I can get round to it I'll go out with my camera and take some pictures myself and replace some of the least favoured in the gallery. Thanks for your comments. JK.

In the meantime, there's a lot to beaver away at in getting the congress ready. I am trying to get the work more distributed and have set aside a section in the Congress forum (here) for people to register there their readiness to help and to indicate any special relevant skills.

You can help, even if you can't attend the congress or are only going to be there for one day (special rate applies). For example, design of posters, badges etc, internet research, stewarding, promotion, relief work on book stall/box office, helping beginners, general gophers, translating and so on.

Even early enrolment is a help. As this means we can see at an earlier stage how much money there's going to be in the pot to spend.

[I spoke to a member of staff at the seafront Travelodge (the hotel closest to the kongresejo, and the cheapest) and he reckons that to get the best rate, kongresanoj should book before the end of March. This hotel changes its prices according to the number of bookings. (Their rates are currently £22 a room except the Saturday when the rate is £40.)]

Sorry, Sudanglo, I have to say I'm no fan of the ram either. It looks like a cross between the Robinson's golliwog and Satan's wee brother. ridulo.gif

On the positive side, the picture of the cliffs is the one which does it for me.

Yes that photo Cis is well composed. Incidentally you can't actually see the cliffs (which are chalk). What you see is an artificial rock (whose secret formula has now been lost) lining the steps down to the beach.

Big girls blouses you are, for being frightened of the ram. As I said before this graphic was used for decades by the town's tourist office. Was it an accident that I wrote in EAB's magazine Update Come and be naughty in Ramsgate?
