Hello--does anyone know of any files to download to change Finder, Safari, etc., on Mac OSX from English to Esperanto? My thanks in advance.

I've only ever heard of such localization for Linu'x. I'm not sure how it would be done, or even if it's possible for MacOS.

If you use Firefox, then you can probably install the Esperanto version of that. I can't test this, as there's no up-to-date version of Firefox for my Mac PPC.

I'm pretty sure OS X has resource tables that can be edited to localize a program. Esperantizing OS X would just be a matter of tracking down the relevant sets of resources and entering them in Esperanto. Unfortunately I don't remember any more details than that -- it's been almost ten years since I worked in the Mac group at Microsoft and much as I enjoyed it I haven't touched a Mac since.

Linux uses a set of language/locale files for X.org (which is a fork of Xwindows). OS X has its own GUI, though, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't have anything to do with X.org.

Apple controlls the languages in which OS X is available and as far as i know it's impossible to simply create one on your own. I suppose you will have to send a feature-request to Apple. But i pretty much doubt, that they will give any !%~# ...

Hyperboreus:Maybe you can try out any linux of your choice with the graphical desktop environment of your choice. You can even make it look like a Mac if you want that. And there you can have Esperanto.
Thanks, everyone. This is really too bad from a "full immersion" standpoint to using the language. I do use Firefox's Esperanto version, and know that the word processing app Mellel also has Esperanto localization. Is there a list anywhere of OS X apps with Esperanto localization? If not, we can start with my two!! ridulo.gif

I just discovered something fun. In Mac OS System Preferences, you can chose Esperanto as your region. My language is English, so finder commands are still English, but time and date are in Esperanto. So now it displays 'ma maj 14 5:21 ptm' on my menu bar. And my calendar is now in Esperanto. Not an OS solution, but better than nothing.

Also - same works in iOS - so my iPhone greats me with mardo mayo 14.
