Mr. Mihm's most recent film, House of Ghosts also has an Esperanto voice track as well as subtitles in Esperanto.

The Kongresejo for the British Congress in 2013 in Ramsgate was originally a cinema, before it got converted to a meeting place for a Christian group and also as a place for theatrical productions.

It is my understanding that the original full size cinema screen has been retained and facilities exist for projection from a computer onto this screen.

This gave me the idea of screening a selection of the better video clips in Esperanto on You-tube as an entertainment during the congress.

Is this a non-starter from a technical point of view? What would be the image quality if such clips were blown up? Obviously sound quality would not be such an issue. I presume there wouldn't be a copyright problem with clips produced by Esperantists in Esperanto and posted on You-tube.

Any techie like to comment?

Any clips that don't even look good in full-screen mode on a regular computer will look softer and grainier on a cinema screen. Anything with a set height and width will look worse when blown up.

The common resolution of You Tube videos is 480 x 360pixels, a lot are now in 720 HD mode. Most can be switched between resolutions. Only a few are in the highest resolution on 4096x3072 pixels. It's still not a very clear picture on a very large screen, rather than a home cinema screen.

Any chance you could hire the hall and a projector for a day and screen a few to see how they would come out? I can't imagine that a standard YouTube video would be anything but blocky when blown up to that size, but at this stage of the game it might not be so much that the bear waltzes well as that it waltzes at all (i.e. that there actually are Esperanto clips of any quality to show).

Looking at Youtube just now I found a clip of Zamenhof addressing the Boulogne-sur-Mer conference. (He speaks Esperanto quite well. Go figure.) It's not much from a video point of view, since 1905 was well prior to the invention of talkies, but the recording is of pretty good quality and it would be a chance to hear la majstro speak. (I just wish whoever put this together had used a picture of Zamenhof as the background. He looks a lot better than the e+star they used.)

I saw that video, but wasn't that actually Claude Piron recounting the speech? I thought the voice sounded familiar, and someone in the top comments seemed sure that is was Claude.

Very well could be. I kind of thought the quality was too good for 1905 standards, but with digital processing and the like, I supposed it was just remotely possible. Ah well.

I'm popping down to the Kongresejo on Monday for a demonstration of the equipment. The projector can apparently throw 3000 lumens at the screen (whatever that means, apparently it's good).

Am I right in my supposition that video clips on You-tube can be downloaded from the site?
