There's a lot of excellent advice in the messages in this thread. Concerning reading, one possible path is via Piron's Gerda Malaperis!, Vere aŭ Fantazie, a magazine such as Juna Amiko and then Marjorie Boulton's Faktoj kaj Fantazioj. You might want to work through a lengthier book (once you are ready for it), page by page, such as Arthur Baur's La fenomeno Svislando.

One way to increase motivation may be to read the internet articles by the late great Claude Piron and watch his Youtube video The language challenge. I would also encourage you to memorise the Esperanto hymn La Espero. Also try to get hold of Marjorie Boulton's biography Zamenhof: creator of Esperanto.

Last but not least, take the chance, if circumstances permit, to meet other Esperantists!
