Is this purely because modern clothing doesn't provide a convenient place to attach the insigno.
If the custom were to be revived what form of attachment would most suit 21st century attire.
Does anybody know of a link to a picture of the form used before the five-pointed green star became the standard. Does anybody have one of the early forms?

Of, perhaps, related interest, the Irish fáinne that had also fallen out of use for decades is once again being promoted especially in Northern Ireland. Politics etc. aside, it might be of interest to the Esperanto movement to see what they are up to and how.

Perhaps a seven pointed star would be more appropriate for a world language (one point for each of the seven continents).
A pin could be attached to any item of clothing, and would definitely raise awareness of the language because it is rare for folk to wear pins these days.
Changing the background colour depending on proficiency would also help. For example, bronze for beginner, silver for intermediate, and gold for advanced speaker.
Might even encourage some of the eternaj komencantoj (self included) to upgrade their ability.
As to who decides which level of ability someone could claim, let the person themselves decide, the last thing this language needs is the kind of language snobs that abound in the English speaking world.

darkweasel:There are seven continents, or six, depending on how you count. The reason there are five olympic rings is the Americas are combined in one ring and Antarctica doesn't compete, having no indigenous population.
