There are so many great works in English that I would love to see translated into Esperanto. However I question my ability to do this well without help.

I propose a sort of "game". First select an open source book, then one of us translates the very first paragraph. Next some of us will give our opinions on that translation and help to improve upon it if needed. Then another person will translate the next paragraph until a chapter or so has been translated. At that point we may discus methods of translation, preferred vocabulary and other related topics.

I want to know if this has been tried before and whether some of you on the forums would be interested in doing this, and how it would be best organized. No deadlines, just for fun.

Yes, there are a number of complete books which have been translated by a group of Esperantists working together and the translations have been good. This seems to be a very effective method.

From time to time, in the forum, we have had translation competitions using small extracts from a variety of sources. If you want to launch a thread along these lines then go ahead. Post your extract, but don't make it too long.
