erinja:It could be that the way that Esperanto is structured just doesn't fit well with the way your mind does logic.
I find that's true in computer languages, where languages like Perl and Ruby work the way my brain does better than languages like Java or C++. I don't see why it wouldn't be the case for human languages as well.

antoniomoya:
You're right that the transitive/intransitive verb form of Esperanto is a problem for all of us, like the accusative.
No offence, but speak for yourself.
For me, the transitive/intransitive forms make things easier, the same with the accusative case. I personally like the use of grammatical cases and actually wish Esperanto had a genitive case to replace "de" forms.

goliath07:I am 29 years old. I picked up my first book on learning Esperanto when I was 18. I still can't speak this stupid language. I learned French in 5 months.
I'm just wondering if you applied the same amount of resources to the study of both languages or if there were differences both in resources applied and the amount of resources available for each language?

Considering that goliath07 has (currently) a total of six posts to his name, he clearly hasn't asked too many questions during his eleven year nightmare.

I have no sympathy for people who can find the time to complain that it's "too hard", but don't have time to actually ask for help with it.

Esperanto is the most difficult language to learn IN THE WORLD. Having no irregular verbs hardly makes up for the ridiculous, non-descriptive vocabulary and verb forms. The transitive/intransitive verb form of esperanto makes me think it's creator smoked meth or chewed on dried paint.

Pura - Clean
Puri - to clean? NoPE!
Purigi! or maybe puriĝi I still have no clue.

However Prava will translate to pravi. igi iĝi and ont int ant forms were enough to drive me insane.

This rant has little finesse, I know. But after 10 years, I just wanted to announce somewhere... I QUIT.
I don't seem to have these problems. Transitivity is easy enough to understand, as is the accusative. However one does have to use them in order to internalize their use. A few weeks of actually using Esperanto will give much better results than French. The use of both languages comparatively in schools shows this to be true.

+1, and every time it's stranger how people here feed trolls and semi-trolls... :/

Nice to hear, I like difficult things. And I am almost genius if I can speak such a difficult language ridulo.gif

creedelambard:One actual sentence is "Sed ĝi malpuras kiel lavĉifono!" - which I think is supposed to mean "But it gets dirty like a dishrag!", although why the author decided to use "malpuri" rather than "malpuriĝi", I don't know
He didn't use "malpuriĝas" because he didn't mean "get's dirty". As I explained in my last post, "puri" would mean "be clean", therefore "ĝi malpuras kiel lavĉifono" means "it's as dirty as a dish rag".

antoniomoya:...But if I want to learn, for exemple, English, I have to learn to pronounce EACH English word, to memorize EACH one of them, (thousands and thousands) due to the irregularities of the language.
Don't exaggerate, English is regular, it just has thousands of thousands of exceptions. That's all. okulumo.gif
