Last time I was living in London, which was unfortunately about 20 years ago, I used to go to the meetings of the London Esperanto Society (if that's what it was called). I recall them taking place in a location somewhere near Euston Station. Because London is such an international city, there were Esperantists from all over the world, many of whom were just passing through. The times I went, there was a speaker who would give a short talk on some topic or other, generally not about Esperanto, and then there was tea and conversation. It was fun, and helped me to feel at home despite not know many people in the city.

I am afraid that the London Esperanto Club is much diminished compared to its former glories.

I wouldn't blame anyone now for not attending.

However, Tom, would you like to make an exception to your aversion for clubs and Congresses and come down to Ramsgate for la Brita Kongreso 2013. I's only 1hr 15min on the Javelin class trains from St.Pancras and I doing my best to break the mould with this Congress. (A day pass is only £10).

I'd like to see as many Lernu members from the UK, France, Belgium and Holland as possible at the Congress even if only for one-day attendance.

Anthony, those questions sound like something from a kafkaesque nightmare. Where did they come from? I really don't remember ever having been asked anything like that in my whole life, but then again I live in Florida where, if you don't understand something, you simply say: "No entiendo, chulo! Dime en español" or "M'pa kompwan!"

The London Esperanto Club still exists. It's now based in the Irish Center in Camden. They meet most Fridays:

The only thing is that the level of Esperanto is quite high and as I am a beginner it's a bit overwhelming so I'll wait for a few more months before going back.
Anthony, those questions sound like something from a kafkaesque nightmare. Where did they come from?
I'm reading "Lasu min paroli plu" from Claude Piron (the 2nd book I read in Esperanto!) and I try to understand as much as I can in terms of grammar hence my list of questions.

Most Fridays! Wow, I'd love to have something like that to enjoy. I'll be sure to visit the next time I'm in London.

I don't think you should let the level of Esperanto intimidate you. You can learn a lot by listening.
