What is "aria" in this sentence I found in Privat's "Vivo de Zamenhof"?
Sur tiu dolĉa tero vivas jam de miljaroj unu el plej malnovaj gentoj de l' aria mondo.
"Ario" seems to be an aria (as in an opera). That doesn't seem to apply. Something from "aro"?

On-line dictionaries have not been helpful.

"Arian" in the sence of Indo-European, I guess.

Hmmm. Hadn't though of that. Vortaro gives "arja" for "Aryan" but it's a possibility. Makes a lot more sense than "pertaining to operatic solos" anyway ...

I have a copy of a translation of Privat's 'Vivo de Zamenhof'. If you can refer me to where the word occurs, I'll see what the translator made of it.

Ariya or Ariâ is atributed to Arian people who came to Iranian Plateu some 5-7 thousand year back from north Europe (presumably today's Finnland). They include today’s Persians (majority of Iranians), Kurds, Afgâns Paŝtuns, Bluchis, Pakestâni (including some pre-avestan small minorities), North Indians, Tajiks and people of Bukârâ, and Samarkand in Uzbakestân.
They are the fouders of Persian Empire, the first empire in the world.

It's right at the beginning, just after the quote of the opening lines of Sinjoro Tadeo.

from 'The Life of Zamenhof' trans. Ralph Eliott (1931): One of the oldest races of the Aryan world has lived in this smiling land for thousands of years.
