All posts in the English forum should be accompanied by an English translation. You can also post your original Esperanto post into one of the Esperanto forums to find a person to practice with, who might not speak English at all! (which is great for learning)

Hands up all of those who can't read a simple message in Esperanto.*raises hand* I can't read a "simple message in Esperanto", mostly because my vocabulary is so poorly developed. I've been wanting to try the "speak from day 1" approach a la Benny the Irish Polyglot, but I've had a devil of a time finding places to practice developing my vocab (I dare not venture into the EO forums until I'm at least conversational, because I don't have time to look up every other word).

You probably know this, but if you're in the esperanto forums and you click on a word you don't know, the lernu system will pop up a translation of it. Esperanto word building being what it is, the computer can't always figure out every word or construction. However, while the system isn't perfect, it's actually quite good. Usually it's enough to get the gist of what's being said.
As for learning vocabulary, there are some great resources available her on lernu in the learning section. If you work through the lernu courses and the vocabulary drills on this site, you'll build an excellent foundational vocabulary pretty quickly. But the way to really expand your vocabulary, in my opinion, is just to get a lot of exposure to new words and new constructions in context.
I think that reading and working through real esperanto communication is the best way to do that. Reading on the Eo forums, reading books in esperanto, etc. One thing that can help a ton is to get a little notebook and write down any vocabulary you don't know. I do it by chapters. If i'm reading an Eo book, any word that I have to work to figure out, or that I have to look up, I write in my notebook. Then a few days later I review that vocabulary and then reread the chapter. It really flows the second time (or sometimes the third or fourth, but eventually! *grin*) I go through it.
And I'll actually tell you the thing that helped me most with reading Eo, Reading PMEG. It's written in a very clear style, suitable for low-intermediate esperanto speakers, and as you work through reading it you are also reinforcing your learning of the language. The first chapters are kinda boring as H E double hockey sticks, but once you get into the meat of it, it's quite interesting to see how the language works.
anyway, free advice, possibly worth at least that much.
