Hey guys,

I've been studying PMEG and noticed the following about "DUM" It says:

Dum estas ankaŭ frazenkondukilo: Forĝu feron dum ĝi estas varmega. PE.616 Tio estas eĉ la origina uzo de dum. Komence dum tute ne estis uzata kiel rolvorteto.

The problem is I'm not great with the grammar terms, and unfortunately don't understand the difference between rolvorteto and frazenkondulilo, or how to spot the differences between the two. However the history of the language evolution interests me, so any clarification on what this means would be great.

Generally you can think of a 'rolvorteto' as a preposition and a 'frazenkondukilo' as a conjunction. That would be the difference between "La bebo ploris dum la tuta nokto" and "La patro freneziĝis dum la bebo ploradis" respectively.

The nice thing about PMEG (or not so nice for others) is that it doesn't use traditional grammatical terminology. It makes up descriptive words.

A rolvorteto is used to mark a word's function in a sentence. A frazenkondukilo introduces a sentence or a part of a sentence. They don't exactly map to a preposition and a conjunction, but it's close.
