I suppose not getting paid is a good hint to find the solution.

If there's not much market, there's not much income. Without much income, you can't hire much in the way of a programmer - a good-willed volunteer or part-timer, but most companies don't hire programmers who are sympathetic to their company product (eg, document management, storage facilities, etc.) and hiring a professional like that isn't cheap.
Without much income, those running the websites will tend to be stingy about hiring a contract developer to create them something, as well.

So, therefore? Create EO products to sell, buy EO products from others, create more active EO economy?

Indeed, that's a good reason to buy Eo stuff from Eo-sites, even if other sites offer better things (for example t-shirts on zazzle).

Sorry for not responding quick because in this part of the world we were still sleeping ridulo.gif

pdenisowski:
1980's? You mean they're all text based? Maybe it's time I updated my browser

Perhaps I should dye my hair as well ridulo.gif
You should in both things!

Moosader:
What kind of websites are you hoping to find for Esperanto?
Well most of it are information websites such as news and stuff I mean instead of looking at Cnet to read the new tech news everyday in English even though it's not my native language I can read it on one those shiny Esperanto website, I know this my not be happen but I really hope if they make version of it ridulo.gif

pdenisowski:
I'm ashamed to admit it, but my entire domain, including the ESPDIC page, is all hand-made HTML edited with Notepad.
You know most of the cool website you see today are made in text editor just like you did it's just include more modern thing like as Moosader mentioned CSS and Javascript and if you don't like those Server-side languages like say PHP you can do it with Jekyll. ridulo.gif

I'm sure it is.

I think the other thing being overlooked here is that a lot of these websites were probably made 10 years ago. There's just not a ton of interest in Esperanto, so these small websites are made by a hobbyist and then just hang out for a while.

On an aside, I don't think Libera Folio looks terribly antiquated. Granted, it's not hyper modern (and the logo is awful), but I think websites like Cnet or google+ take it a bit too far with the bars popping up out of every which corner of the screen. I don't think we've yet struck upon an appropriate level of dynamicism for webpages.

Well said, indeed these websites were probably made 10 years ago, but some of it are so big and they do need to look modern because they are updating their content almost everyday so why not updating their look as well?!

And Cnet or Google+ not the model here but the creativity find it's way ya know ridulo.gif

I'm more interested in finding out what Esperanto websites are updating their content near daily?

Simple reason: It's an awful lot of work to provide enough content. As content is more important than look. So people treat look with lower priorty. So do I.

I am running two websites.

One for my music: http://muziko.johannes-mueller.org
and one for Scienca Revuo: http://scienca-revuo.info

The music site is done by a some local perl scripts that take xml-data and create static html5 that is updated to the server. I would like to polish it a little bit, but I work at higher priority on new songs and videos.

The Scienca Revuo site is done by some open source journal php software. I could invest a little bit on CSS to polish it. Maybe I will, if I find the time one day.

Unfortunately the Esperanto world is a club of volunteers. So hardly anyone is willing or able to pay for the look of the website. So if you think improving the look is something necessary, offer your help to sites which are in your oppinion important and need to be polished.

BTW: why not take this thread over to an Esperanto speaking forum?

Yea that's right and I know but to emerge new comers and to convince other you need to show the content in probable way or the user will ignore it only if he really that interested then he will continue.

Well I'm not that good yet in Esperanto to run an argument and to interact with other members, but I think you are right though.

I agree.

While looking around for meetup groups, I found a couple of group pages that were using a tripod hosted website. Tripod! I thought they went down years ago...
