fari_teon:I think a website that is not necessarily about Esperanto but is written in Esperanto would be something good. There are plenty of websites about it, the market is saturated.
It would be refreshing to have site where conversations aren't dominated by debates on grammar and the philosophical ideals of Esperanto.
We need a site just for fun and relaxed chat. Somewhere to talk about things like music and TV stuff such as who was the latest character to be killed off in game of thrones etc. Possibly also in the form of a forum site but separate from lernu which has a tendency to turn conversations a bit deep and thoughtful (or completely idiotic, depending on who's joining in)

Them's my thoughts on it anyway.

Yes exactly we really want something like this but I think blogs can make this happen I mean someone could make a blog about TV or technology then invite writer to write in this blog as their free time allow then this will gain a great popularity among esperanto speaker since it follow the group interests.

I have started a forum in delphiforums ( http://forums.delphiforums.com/verdastelo/start) for this exact purpose. There is, however, a folder specifically for questions and answers. There is one folder specifically for Esperanto-only threads. If need be, other Esperanto-only folders can be created if posting volume (and topic diversity) warrant it.

erinja:If someone is offended because someone has made a post saying "believers in X religion are heretics and idiots and they should all be killed", then we are likely to do something about that post. Everyone has a right to their opinion but it should be expressed in a polite and friendly way, without insulting others.
I would say that 90% of the postings in the Viewpoints section are non-believers insulting peoples' religious views. If I point to posts from someone calling Mohammed a liar and a murderer and the Quran a book of stupid nonsence (here : post by Mihxil 2013-05-24 18:16:12), will that be deleted? How about someone calling for all Catholic priests to be castrated (here : post by AlfRoland 2013-05-27 10:52:03)? I could go on and on -- there are several die-hard nekredantoj who seem to believe it is their duty to call everyone who doesn't agree with them "stulta".

I'm not interested in censoring anyone's right to express their opinions, but if the same comments were made about an ethnic or racial group, they would (and should, in my opinion) be deleted immediately.

Sorry for being off topic.

Amike,
Paul

The administrators of the site do not have the time to read every single post. We rely on users to report offensive posts, and if they don't, we aren't likely to be aware of the offensive content, because we simply aren't able to read everything.

I keep an eye on the English forum but for the other forums I don't necessarily have the time or the linguistic skills (time for Esperanto, linguistic skills for other forums).

Moosader:Lernu may not be sleek and stylish, but it's definitely using a database and some form of server-side scripting, otherwise this entire site would not be possible. It would be a nightmare to maintain and update, and none of us could communicate via this message board or messages; would not be possible.
I do understand that it was a heck lot of work to do the scripting for Lernu and Lernu isn't a bunch of static pages, but it just looks oldish and some functionality is oldish (for example, private messages, but it's ok because Lernu is rather an educational website than a social network).

Well, I'm myself considering creating an esperanto show on Youtube. It's not a shinny website, but something fresh and awesome for the Esperanto-community. Also, you can visit the 'Ridetu' Facebook page where I post some funny stuff in Esperanto: https://www.facebook.com/ridetueo

Let me know when/where you post your show on, so I can add it to my Esperanto Entertainment blog. :B

I may be outnumbered here, but I don't think the Lernu! webpage is that bad. It's minimalist, for sure, but I like minimal. It looks clean, well-organized and (most importantly) very practical. The ability to click on any Esperanto word and get a pop-up definition, the handy dictionary and chat box on the right.... there are many things to like about Lernu.

Sure, it's not the best website on the World Wide Web, but then 99.9% of pages aren't, either. But it does its job well.

That said, I am excited about the upcoming changes to the site. I want to see what will be improved.
