I read that there was going to be a vote at the Ramsgate Congress as to who had the most pleasing accent.

What was the outcome of that?

Is there audio available of that speaker?

It would be interesting if someone could take the time to convert that persons accent into IPA symbols so that Esperanto speakers could standardise accent on a pleasing to the ear model.

Terry Watt (sudanglo) organised the BK in Ramsgate this year, so he might know. As I recall, the people with the highest scores were the most experienced Esperantists in the EAB, such as Sally Phillips (organiser of a past BK) and Jack Warren (organiser of next year's BK in Sheffield). Tim Owen also did very well.

Unfortunately the Ramsgate Congress was less international than I had hoped and the final judging took place late on the Sunday when Continental visitors had largely already departed.

The results can't be considered scientific, and I am not sure that the technicians kept the recordings of the participants voices.

The whole thing needs re-doing at a large international congress with participation from contestants and audience of many different mother tongues backgrounds.

However I seem to remember it was Sally Philips who received the most favourable votes.

Miland, have you ever come across any recording of her voice she has posted on the internet?

I'm afraid not. But perhaps Viv or Geoffrey King might know respectively if there's a recording in materials published by EAB, or in the Butler library?
