Hi Everyone! ridulo.gif
I have a question: How do you say "my father's name" in Esperanto? I couldn't figure out how to say "my ___'s ___".

Esperanto doesn't really have a genitive case like English does.

Granted, you can quite reliably replace "___'s ___" by "la ___a ___o". Zamenhof's language -> La zamenhofa lingvo.

However, doing the same with "my ___'s ___" might result in confusion. Mia patra nomo would likely be understood as "the name I bear as a father".

An unconventional alternative would be La miapatra nomo ([mia patro]a -> miapatra) but for clarity's sake it's best to reserve this for literary usage.

Thus, the safest option is la nomo de mia patro.

If you want to say "my father's name is ..." you could use "mia patro nomiĝas ..."

Amike,
