Libera Esperanto-Libro is a downloadable course in PDF form, for example. It has some courses from lernu in printed form. You can print out only the parts you feel like printing out, or all of it or none of it, but hopefully your computer can handle that.

erinja:There are some courses that you can download and print out and also some courses that were developed during the "dinosaur" era that your computer may have come from.I have a hard time as well, but not because of my computer... The Internet speed here in China leaves much to be desired, especially at certain times of the day. Listening to the audio files is very hard to do. I am sure that I am not the first with this problem, how do other people deal with this type of thing? Although I am replying to Erinja, I encourage replies from anyone.

I would like to participate, but I don't want to do so if it would be considered in bad form to do so.
thanks

Purrfecdizzo:Are Newcomers to the language encouraged to participate in the Esperanto-language discussion threads even if our skill is really poor, or should we wait until we can communicate well?My personal (and it is just that) suggestion is to go ahead and try to participate in some of the Esperanto forums here on lernu. I have done so on a few occasions, and my command of E-o is far from perfect. I can read many E-o texts with moderately good comprehension without resorting to a dictionary, but I have never had the opportunity at all to speak it, and only a few occasions to try to write short texts. Nevertheless, I have never been admonished for those few posts I have made in the E-o forums.
I would like to participate, but I don't want to do so if it would be considered in bad form to do so.
thanks
Lernu! is supposed to be a learning site, so others should not be disconcerted if beginners / learners make a few mistakes. Just indicate in your posts whether or not you invite corrections to what you write. At the bottom of your posts, you might include something like, "Mi estas komencanto. Bonvolu, korekti miajn erarojn."

You will find that as soon as you start participating, your skill level will almost immediately start improving. This will especially be true if you ask people to correct your mistakes (which most participants will gladly do). I've never understood people who don't want their errors corrected, but there are enough of them to put a damper on it, so you need to explicitly ask for correction now and then to remind people that it's OK for them to help you improve.
If you are unsure of your skill level, simply make your posts short. It is amazing how many errors someone just starting out can pack into surprisingly few words. But that doesn't last very long, if they just pay attention.
Don't be shy. Don't worry about making mistakes; the more you make at first, the faster you will improve. You will not be made fun of, or made to feel that you are not welcome.
