I guess mixers is a place name. Maybe there was an age limit to get in, and he exaggerated his age by 10 years to get admission.

Well, that's my guess.

Mixers is likely not a place name. A mixer is usually a party whose goal is to goal is to meet new people, so a little like informal group dating. If you lie at your age at a mixer, then you are trying to mislead potential dating prospects.

Agreed.

That said, if you were in your late twenties/early thiries, no amount of lying would have gotten you through the door at any of the undergrad mixers I used to go to. ridulo.gif

Amike,
Paul

P.S. Of course, we are assuming that the person in question was understating his/her age, not overstating it. An 8-10 year-old would DEFINITELY not be able to lie his/her way into ANY mixer ....

Depends on how you look! I get mistaken for a student semi-regularly when meeting new people. I do live in a student-heavy area but I'm nearly 33 so I've been done with that for a while now. I could realistically lie about my age by ten years for a mixer (however if it was a frat/sorority thing, I likely would not be cool enough to get in!)

I agree, it is definitely about a social mixer.

I have a similar problem. If I didn't keep facial hair I could probably convince someone that I just graduated high school. 10 years would be pushing it, however, as I don't look anything like a 14-year-old. okulumo.gif
