My mate found a diary written in Esperanto in 1893 in a collection of antique books. It seems to be written by an early Esperantist who is travelling and comes into contact with a foreigner who introduces him to his spiritual belief system. As the book goes on, the author seems to delve deeper into this new spirituality.

Because the book is quite a historical curiosity, we've decided to translate it into English and would like to get it published professionally. We sent it off to experts to get its authenticity checked and to see if they could find out any more information about it. We plan to release scans of each page for free on the internet soon.

We have also been in contact with a national tv station in Australia and they intend to broadcast a story about Esperanto and the book soon. The filming already took place. I'll keep you posted about that. This could be good for drawing interest from outsiders into the Esperanto world!

So far my mate has spent quite a significant amount of money out of his pocket on getting the book ready to be published, so I encouraged him to start a fundraising page for the book. There will be gifts awarded to anyone who donates, such as early copies of printed copies with translations.

If anyone is interested, check out http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/diary-of-the-twe...

Thanks.

Koran dankon to the fella who just donated a whopping 50 bucks! It's unfortunate that I didn't post about this on the forum earlier in the campaign, but my mate was afraid it would seem too much like begging. I only just convinced him to let me post here. But not to worry, if we don't reach our target the project will all go ahead as planned— Richard will just be compensated through any sales of the translation after it's published, as we're sure it will be be a selling success ridulo.gif.

Hey, solicitations for money aren't allowed in your forums; you can write about the project, but not in a way that asks for money. If you want to ask for money, you can post your message in the "About everything else" topic, where that kind of stuff is allowed.

You should have sent it to Esperanto historians like Ziko van Dijk or Ulrich Lins. Anything that would illuminate something about the Esperantists of yestercenturies (!) should be part of our communal heritage.

First of all I'd like to say the fundraising is over. Thanks everyone. Sorry for posting in the wrong forum Erinja.

Thanks for the suggestion patrik. We are going to make free copies of the scanned pages available on the internet. The book is currently with 2 experts and we have had some email communication with another Esperanto literature expert who I don't want to name yet but we might be sending him the book soon. I will pass the names you mentioned on to Richard. Once we release the copies, if any expert wishes to inspect the book they will be able to contact Richard and arrange something.

Any chance you could post now a sample page of the Esperanto to whet our appetites?

This is quite an exciting finding! If I knew about this indiegogo campaign I would have donated some.

I wish you guys good luck. And I can't wait to be able to read it in Esperanto and English (and hopefully other languages too). ridego.gif

There's a Facebook page devoted to the book: www.facebook.com/Diaryofthetwelvegods

Hahahahahahaha, the title kinda reminded me of this fantasy anime called "Fushigi Yuugi" (Mysterious Play). lango.gif And having took a gander from it, well, sounds like fantasy indeed. The genre.
