I'm a beginner Esperanto speaker, and I'm looking for a way to get to know other speakers and improve my familiarity with the language. A figure that a great solution for this would be to find a penpal!
I'm a resident of Canada, and English is my native language. It's been almost two years since I initially learned Esperanto through my online tutor, but I have only practiced rarely. I love being corrected, when necessary. I would be able to write once per week, and would prefer to communicate through email, but I'm open to alternatives. I'm looking for a long term friendship.
I'm open to conversing with almost anyone! If you are also a beginner Esperanto speaker, it would be a great opportunity to learn together. If you're a more experienced speaker, it would be a great opportunity for me to learn directly from an expert. I'd love to hear about where you live and what life is like there. I do require that you do have enough skill to actually converse entirely in Esperanto. I know this post is in English, but after this I'd like to take a no-English approach. If you live somewhere where English is not the native language, that'd be particularly fun!
If you're interested, write a response or drop me a PM with a little bit about yourself!
Talk to you soon!

Not to discourage you from finding English speaking penpals, though.

Nile:It would be a good idea to talk to people who don't speak English, too. If you are starting from the same language, you're more likely to make the same mistakes, and not notice them.I completely agree! Mostly, the reason for writing this in English was that I felt I would be able to better express who I am and what I'm looking for.

Yes, email is quickly displacing paper mail, but there are still some of us who enjoy paper mail. (And I concur with the prior suggestion to exercise one's Esperanto skills with someone of other than your own native language. Mine is English, as is yours.)

bartlett22183:By "penpal" do you mean a correspondent by email or by old-fashioned paper letters? There is a slight difference in what we might call the "feel" of the two modes of correspondence. For example, there was -- I haven't checked as to whether there still is -- an organization called International Pen Friends which acted as a clearinghouse for people speaking many languages to establish paper letter international correspondences. It might make a difference.I would prefer email correspondence, simply for the fact that it is easier. I'm open to snail mail alternatives though

I didn't think there would be websites for this sort of thing, thanks for pointing me in that direction! I've checked out InterPals and will likely make an account.
Moosader:I may be willing to exchange addresses and do paper penpal-ing. I haven't had a penpal since I was a kid!Sweet, thanks for the interest! Would you be open to email communication, or do you prefer paper penpaling?
