I've taken a fair bit of interest in the language as of late (though I've yet to start up my studies) and I was curious if there was anyone on this site that has studied Lojban and could fill me in on their thoughts / experiences with the language.

Many thanks in advance.

It's pretty complex. Basic sentences aren't too hard, but if you want to add subordinate clauses, it gets too out of hand for me.

I see, I see. Would you say it's more complex than a natural language?

Lojban was the first conlang I wanted learn because of it's ability to create precise sentences without any ambiguity but decided against it after I realized that no one speaks it!

It's still pretty cool though and I'm planning on learning it after I get a good handle on Esperanto.

I first got into this language hobby after reading of Lojban/Loglan somewhere on the interwebs. I, too, decided against learning it upon finding out that nobody really speaks the language.

Lojban is a non-starter conIAL for whole mankind. Simply the sufficient intelligence to speak naturally Lojban in everyday situations and in most workplaces isn't there.

Interesting. Have you studied lojban?

Over many years I have gained acquaintance with a large number of constructed languages, Lojban among them (to a limited extent). My own conclusion is that it depends on your interests. What do you want a language to do? If you want it to be a genuine (constructed) international auxiliary language in the practicality of this day and age, your choices are extremely limited: maybe Esperanto, on the far outside maybe Interlingua or Ido, maybe some other "up and coming" language such as Lingua Franca Nova or Lingua de Planeta, (although I myself hold out no hope for any of these latter).

If you want to have a hobby or play games, then go for it. If you want to have any real hope of widespread acceptance, then your choices are severely limited.
