Ironchef:It's fun because Esperanto is a Lego-Language. All you are given are colorful blocks, how you assemble them is pretty much up to you once you've understood some simple rules.
Well, that's a word! You are so right. I tought this was worth a citation ridulo.gif

>johnthewise: what books are you looking for? novels, learning.. ?

Speaking with other beginners is good, but you will learn more only when you speak with experienced Esperantists.
I guess I didn't really think about it that way, but I suppose you're right. Just speaking with beginners is going to mean that all the beginners are making the same mistakes, but doesn't necessarily mean that they're going to learn the language correctly.

Haha, alright, well I guess that makes more sense than my suggestion.. forget I mentioned it! I'm going to go chat in the Esperanto section.

Ĝis!

Exactly! And a solution for the problem you named in your first post could be that you open your own thread, state that you are a beginner and ask them to go easy on you. ridulo.gif
(Or flag your thread with a "[Beginner]" in the title or something like that, so that everybody knows they should speak as simple as possible.)

djbjrca:Isn't it possible to do this in this section? It's not dedicated, but if you start a thread in Esperanto then you can still fall back to English if you want...
En ĉi tiu sekcio de la forumo, se vi skribas esperante, vi bezonas provizi anglan tradukon. Multe da homoj en ĉi tiu sekcio estas komencantoj, kaj ne (jam) povas facile legi esperanton.

In this section of the forum, if you write in esperanto, you need to provide an english translation. Many people in this section are beginners, and cannot (yet) easily read esperanto.

I am a beginner. I am on Leciono 6 of the introductory course and I love the language so far.

Esperanto bela lingvo!

Is there a word for is?

RiotNrrd (Voir le profil) 2 décembre 2007 22:25:29

GlobularCube:Is there a word for is?
"Est" is the root. So:

Infinitive: Esti (to be)
Past: Estis (was, were)
Present: Estas (is, am, are)
Future: Estos (will be)
Imperative: Estu! (be!)
Conditional: Estus (would be)

So: Esperanto estas bela lingvo.

I started writing in the forum after just two days or so with esperanto, I knew almost nothing, but I think people understood, just used the dictionary. And what I find so great with Lernu! is that it is possible to just click any word and find a translation, without that tool I would still not understand much.
Still I think a beginner's forum is a good idea, for the first weeks or so, as long as people don't feel they can't write in the other forums as well, just because they're beginners. I still do thousands of mistakes, but it's called "lernu!" not "sciu!", isn't it?
