Hi Everyone, I just completed Bildoj kaj Demandoj and happily I've passed all the tests within it. I am just curious as to what would be the next best step? It appears that the other beginner material covers the same material, so would it be best to move into the intermediate area, or perhaps something else?

Thanks! ridulo.gif

Gerda Malaperis followed by Jen Nia IJK are good. Gerda Malaperis progresses from easy to advance.

The advanced part I failed to pass several times. It seems to be 'most possible neutralised and narrowed Esperanto' (versus Interlingua philosophy of being most possible international comprehensible prototypeing).

I recommend Ana Pana. It is corrected by a live tutor. In my opinion, if you are doing nothing but courses with automated correction, you won't learn as well, because you lack the ability to get feedback on free response answers. In fact, if you do no other basic course at lernu, Ana Pana should be that one and only course! (and if you went through all of the basic rules with "Bildoj kaj Demandoj", then the eight lessons of Ana Pana should be quick and easy, right? Especially if you only do the free response portion and skip the other exercises).

One of the major things that helped me with learning languages is chatting with it. Bildoj kaj Demandoj maybe my favorite language course that I have ever studied, and after that I think my next major improvement was when I used what I learned in the Tujmesagxilo of Lernu. So if I would suggest to you what I have done, go to the instant messenger found under any page in the website.

For your next course, I would still suggest that you study the other Basic courses, Ana Pana as others have suggested is a good one. The course involves having a tutor which would give you communicative interactions which is very helpful just like participating in the Tujmesagxilo which I have suggested. If I knew about it before, I would have been interested in studying La Puzlo Esperanto first or at the same time with Bildoj kaj Demandoj. If you want to go to the Intermediate lessons already, my favorite was Jen nia IJK so that would be what I would recommend, and in order it’s also the first one that appears on the drop-down list suggesting that maybe it’s also what Lernu recommends.

The site actually has a recommended progression through the courses, listed here:
How do I begin?

I don't get it why it only recommends 6 courses (well 5 and 1 intro). I guess Lernu is considering the other courses just optional? But then it does not advise when to study the other courses, in between which numbers of those.

You don't need to do every single course to learn Esperant, so in a sense, *every* course is optional. This list of courses is what we consider an effective way to learn Esperanto.
